    Mike is a tax partner in our Victoria office. He leads the privately held business segment for the Grant Thornton South Coastal BC offices. He is a member of our national succession and estate planning group and sits on the technical committee for that group.

    Mike is a member of the executive board of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners of Vancouver. He also sits on the Tax Professional Development Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia.

    Mike is a member of the advanced technology sector group within Grant Thornton's Victoria office. He provides advice to startup technology companies through VIATeC's Venture Accelerator program.

    Experience

    Mike joined Grant Thornton in 1998. He provides advice on Canadian income tax matters, working primarily with private businesses in the area of trusts and estates.

    Mike has written and taught numerous continuing education courses for the Alberta and BC provincial Chartered Accountant Institutes. He has spoken on tax and business matters for the Canadian Tax Foundation, the National Judicial Institute, Camosun College, the University of Alberta, McEwan College, the Canadian Labour Congress, the Victoria Estate Planning Council, Video Tax News, and a large number of business organizations. Mike has written papers on tax and succession matters for the Canadian Tax Foundation, Grant Thornton publications, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC.

    Mike sits on the board of the Mount St. Mary Hospital Foundation. In 2013 Mike received the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia's Early Achievement Award.
