As co-leader of the Nova Scotia professional services team, I help my clients make tax planning decisions that best support their personal and business goals. My tax practice focuses on assisting owner-managed businesses, with a specialization in the professional services industry. Additionally, some of our largest and most significant high-net worth family clients come to me to help them navigate their most complex personal tax issues—including those centered around estate and succession planning, tax-efficient distribution planning and charitable giving planning.
When I’m not working with clients to provide the best tax advice in the market, I’m often sharing my knowledge as a tutor for the CPA Income Tax Practice course—an intense, week-long tax program for assurance practitioners and others seeking to enhance their knowledge of Canadian tax legislation. I also spend a lot of my time outside of work contributing ideas and recruiting presenters as a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation’s Atlantic Tax Conference Planning Committee.
Perhaps my most rewarding extracurricular endeavour, however, is when I take my accounting skills to the rink as volunteer treasurer of my son’s hockey team. Not only does this role afford me the opportunity to give back to the community while spending time with my family, but it also allows me to meet new people and build relationships with other families and community members.
