Petrina Brake

Focused on building strong client relationships, I actively listen to their concerns and objectives to help them know that strategic advice and support is just a simple call away. This connection allows me to anticipate business opportunities, as well as make sure my clients operate in compliance with current legislation. Whether introducing tax efficiencies, restructuring a business or supporting succession planning, I help my clients reveal their business’ potential while mitigating risks by leveraging best-in-class experts, tools, and resources.

As a Principal in Tax based in our Corner Brook office, I specialize in helping small- and mid-sized private businesses in the construction, retail, fisheries, and professional services industries. With more than 25 years of experience, I have expertise in tax planning, including succession and estate planning, personal, trust, and corporate income tax compliance, corporate restructuring, and mergers and acquisitions. My additional expertise comes from supporting clients with divestitures, retirement, transitioning their business, and remuneration strategies development. I’m genuinely interested in my clients’ success and finding solutions that add value.

Coaching has been an important part of my career for many years as I’m invested in passing along technical expertise and industry knowledge to my junior colleagues. I care about the quality of our practice, which is why I sit on our Principal Panel responsible for colleague compliance to job standards and legislation requirements. In this role, I foster colleagues’ connections and stay ahead of current legislation and industry resources. Additionally, I’m a member of our firm’s Leading Inclusively Advisory Committee which aims to create a culture of inclusion, diversity, and equity for all colleagues.

In the community, I volunteer with the board of directors at the Community Business Development Corporation, which provides funding to companies unable to receive financing through traditional sources. There, I oversee the processes of lending to small- and medium-sized businesses and support local business reinvesting initiatives. At the Breakfast Club of Canada, I help oversee initiatives on the ground.

Spending time with my family is my way to recharge and stay vital. This quality time involves outdoor activities like downhill skiing and hiking, cheering at my kids’ volleyball game, or a piano playing night. Alone, I prefer spending time reading a good book or gardening.
