With extensive involvement in the accounting profession, I help not-for-profits, charities, municipal governments and private businesses with a broad range of audit, assurance and accounting services so they can prosper and grow. This can span from short- and long-term operational planning and succession planning to general business advisory services.
In doing so, I leverage several decades of experience, first as the head instructor of the Business Program at the Southeast Regional College, then in public practice accounting with a firm in Shaunavon. After receiving my CGA designation, I returned to Weyburn where I worked as the Controller of the Weyburn Co-operative Association before becoming a partner at Cogent CPA LLP, which joined forces with Grant Thornton in 2019.
Over the years, I have also been actively involved in the local, provincial and national community. I served as a board member and president of CGA Saskatchewan, and appointed board member and Governor for Saskatchewan, Yukon the Northwest Territory of CGA Canada. I served the City of Weyburn as city councilor for 20 years, sitting on various committees and helping Weyburn grow into one of the best cities to live in on the Prairies! During this time, I was also appointed to the Weyburn Board of Police Commissioners and elected as a Saskatchewan representative to the Canadian Association of Police Governance. I’ve also been involved with the Young Fellows of Weyburn, Weyburn & District United Way, Saskatchewan Summer Games and Royal Bank Cup Junior "A" Tournament.
For my dedication to public service and the accounting community, I received several accolades, including the CGA Fellowship Designation, a Golden Spike Award from the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce, an Honorary Membership from the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association and the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal.
When not at work or involved in community engagements, I most enjoy spending my time with my wife Linda, our sons Scott and Robert, daughter-in-law Katrina and our two grandchildren. I also enjoy golfing and escaping winter in Arizona.
