Last year, the Daily Bread Food Bank in Toronto saw the greatest number of visits in its 40-year history. With the pressures of increased cost-of-living in the city more and more members of the community find themselves challenged to regularly put food on the table. Estimates from 2022 indicate that one-in-five people in the city could be classified as “food insecure”.

With so many of their fellow Torontonians in need, our colleagues in Toronto supported the Daily Bread Food Bank—one of Canada’s largest food banks—with a $25,000 donation. Additionally, colleagues from our Toronto office volunteered in their warehouses to help pack and label food that was distributed to more than 120 locations across the city.

Contributions to the Daily Bread help supply food to nearly 200 food programs across Toronto and run the Farm to Food Bank program, which rescues hundreds of thousands of pounds of fresh, “perfectly imperfect” produce from local farms to distributed to food banks across the city.

"As the cost of living rose throughout 2022, a record number of Torontonian’s faced food insecurity. Our SOBU colleagues recognized the significant strain on local food banks and nominated the Daily Bread Food Bank to receive a donation from the Grant Thornton Foundation. In addition to financial support, I had the opportunity to help host our first volunteer event with the Daily Bread ahead of the holidays. We sorted, packed, and labeled more than three tonnes of pasta which was delivered to the 120+ member food banks across the city. Volunteering gave us a first-hand look at the positive impact this organization is having across our city, and provided an opportunity for our team to give back to the community.”
