The strength of a community is in its people. Our ability to provide people with the resources they need—from education to health to recreation—is indicative of how resilient our communities are. However, not everyone needs the same level or type of support.

Our colleagues in the Okanagan (Interior BC) nominated two organizations devoted to providing resources to community members whose needs aren’t always met by existing programs.

At an event attended by Partners and our National Management Committee in July 2022, Starbright Children’s Development Centre and the Down Syndrome Resource Centre were each presented with a $10,000 donation to support programming and community initiatives that help those with exceptional developmental needs and Down syndrome thrive.

"When my son Logan faced unique challenges in his early years, Starbright was our lifeline. They provided occupational therapy and essential school readiness skills, completely free of charge. Thanks to their unwavering guidance, at the age of five, Logan received his autism diagnosis. For countless families in the Central Okanagan, Starbright is not just an organization; it is an invaluable source of strength and intervention during those early years that are filled with so many unknowns. With this donation, I was able to pay it forward, ensuring that other families facing similar struggles can find hope and support in their journey, with Starbright by their side.”
