Michael Shields

Finding the right solutions to unique and complicated client issues is my passion. As an international tax partner, my goal is to help complex multinational organizations integrate their tax and business strategies. 

I advise clients from fast growing start-ups to some of the largest multinational companies in Canada. I have a wealth of experience working on various projects, such as planning and executing international corporate reorganizations, designing tax efficient cross-border transactions, developing structures for efficient tax credit utilization, and managing multi-year, multi-state business tax strategies. 

I understand that learning about different cultures is key to helping my clients integrate their businesses into a foreign landscape. This often involves strong communication and problem-solving skills to find seamless solutions that work with their culture and management style.

Knowledge sharing and learning and development has also been important to me throughout my career. I’ve enjoyed teaching tax at Simon Fraser University and lecturing for CPA Canada and CPA BC. 

Outside of work, you can find me skiing and hiking with my wife, preparing feasts for our friends or walking my dogs on their daily forest hike. I’m also a regular at the hockey rink and on the golf course.
