Charlottetown, PEI (Feb. 16, 2023)—The 2023 Canada Winter Games are almost here, and Grant Thornton is thrilled to present some of the country’s most talented wheelchair basketball athletes. We believe it’s our social responsibility to not only give back but to also connect with the people in our communities. As a sponsor of wheelchair basketball, Grant Thornton is helping to support and cheer on these talented athletes and will be on the ground connecting with participants, spectators, and other sponsors.
In addition to supporting wheelchair basketball, Blair Dunn, Managing Partner at Grant Thornton on Prince Edward Island, has been working behind the scenes for nearly five years to make the Games a success. After helping with the bid process to get the Games to PEI, he became Vice President of Finance, Administration and HR, as well as a member of the executive committee, Board of Management, and Board of Directors. With more than 30-years in public accounting on PEI, he leverages his experience to help ensure that the games stay within the $53 million plus budget.
“The desire to support the health and prosperity of our communities runs deep at our Firm,” said Dunn. “From coast-to-coast our team works together to achieve a meaningful and sustained impact on the communities where we live and work.”
In addition to Canada Games, Dunn hopes the investment will create opportunities for future PEI athletes, provide a boost to the Island’s economy (as the Island prepares to celebrate its 150th year of confederacy in 2023), and provide a lasting legacy of sports infrastructure. “Canada Games is a catalyst for growth in sport and recreation across the country. In 2023, it will showcase the caliber of our talented athletes, and the dynamic culture, diversity, and hospitality of PEI to the rest of Canada,” exclaims Dunn.
