Helena is an assurance principal based in the Halifax office. She serves privately held businesses across a variety of sectors and is a member of our professional services group, where she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our incorporated medical professional clients on their personal and business reporting requirements. Helena works with her clients to find practical solutions to their business planning in a timely and efficient manner while considering their current and future needs.
Helena has 16 years of experience as a public accountant and spent a significant portion of her career in the audit practice. Her current focus is providing year end accounting, tax and financial advisory assistance to privately held businesses. In addition, she has completed client engagements for a variety of sectors from government pension plans and service businesses to charities and not-for-profit organizations, private manufacturing and construction companies, investment and real estate companies, and telecommunication public companies.
Helena is a member of the board of directors and the current treasurer for the Canadian Association of Family Enterprise (CAFE), Nova Scotia Chapter, and is a trustee of the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth Foundation. Previously, she spent seven years as a member of the board of directors of the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth where she fulfilled various key roles as chair of the audit committee, member of the finance committee and event co-chair for the Bluenose Marathon YMCA race.
Helena's varied background and involvement allows her to draw upon these experiences to bring proactive perspectives to her clients to achieve their goals.
Helena has also presented at a number of internal development courses at Grant Thornton related to accounting and reporting issues.
