Brent Jackson

I am a director in the Transactions group at Grant Thornton, where I split my time between various different roles. First, I help privately held businesses and their owners think strategically about the direction and growth of their business. By helping them understand the different value drivers in their business, I help them to arrange for financing, provide M&A advisory and/or determine strategic plans and financial models that allow the owners to achieve their long-term goals.

Second, as a key member of our Public Utilities group, I have advised a number of utilities, municipalities and government bodies across Canada by providing M&A support, assisting with rate setting, structuring non-regulatory investment strategies, helping to arrange financing, conducting valuations and developing governance strategies.

Finally, as a member of our Valuations group, I have valued over 100 different companies in support of M&A transactions, estate planning, tax reorganizations, fairness opinions and financial reporting (purchase price allocations and goodwill review). In all of my roles, I have worked across a number of different industries, including transportation, technology, manufacturing, security, renewable energy, real estate, financial services and many more.

Away from the office, I spent almost eight years as Treasurer on the board of the Toronto renewable energy Co-op, and four years on the CICBV Communications committee. In my spare time, I’m the head coach of a local high school Ultimate Frisbee team, and an assistant coach for many of my kids’ sports teams (hockey, baseball and soccer). As well, my family and I have recently been building our own cabin on a lake north of Parry Sound, Ontario.
