On September 19, 2017, Toys ‘R’ Us Canada Ltd. sought and obtained protection from its creditors under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (the “CCAA Proceedings”). Pursuant to the order issued by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (Commercial List) on September 19, 2017, Grant Thornton Limited was appointed as the monitor under the CCAA (the “Monitor”).
Also on September 19, 2017, Toys ‘R’ Us Canada Ltd., its direct parent company and other US affiliated companies (collectively, the “Chapter 11 Debtors”), filed voluntary petitions for relief pursuant to title 11, chapter 11 of the United States Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia (the “Chapter 11 Proceedings”).
