For more than 20 years, I’ve advised organizations across a wide range of industries—including real estate, manufacturing, distribution, services and not-for-profits—on a broad variety of Canadian sales tax matters. Drawing on my in-depth knowledge and understanding of commodity tax, I help both Canadian and non-resident organizations meet their Canadian sales tax objectives.
In my role as National Sales Tax Leader for Grant Thornton, I lead a team of 20 specialists who together assist clients with their sales tax requirements. Our services include audit support, transaction advisory, software implementation, as well as knowledge transfer to help our clients gain the knowledge they need to manage their sales tax internally.
Prior to joining Grant Thornton, I worked in various financial roles as a controller and financial manager with companies such as the Dylex Group of Companies, American Express and Honeywell. I also ran my own firm for several years.
Outside of the office, I leverage my experience as a regular speaker for organizations such as CPA Canada and both national and local chapters of the Tax Executives Institute (TEI). In addition to speaking on issues like audit support, the practical application of legislation and making sales tax user-friendly, I’ve published numerous papers for presentation at the CPA Canada GST/HST Symposium. I’ve also been a tutorial leader for the CPA Canada GST/HST in-depth tax course for more than 10 years.
I spend my spare time actively volunteering for various amateur sporting organizations and local charities. In my downtime, you can generally find me trying out new recipes and enjoying the outdoors in the country.
