As the US Corporate Tax leader for Eastern Canada, I leverage over 15 years’ experience to assist both corporate and personal clients with US and cross-border tax issues, including matters related to US tax compliance and planning.
As a subject matter expert in the field of US and cross-border tax for privately held businesses, I have worked with cross-border businesses of all sizes to structure their US business expansion, manage tax costs, repatriate profits and address mobile workforce issues. I have also advised clients on numerous cross-border transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and reorganizations.
Drawing on my extensive experience dealing with state income and sales tax laws, I can assist clients in determining their exposures; negotiate voluntary disclosure agreements with the various state bodies; and assist with state income, franchise and sales tax compliance. In addition to my experience in US inbound taxation, I have in-depth knowledge of US international outbound tax law and the US tax laws for controlled foreign corporations (CFCs) and passive foreign investment companies (PFICs).
A graduate of the University of Waterloo’s Master of Accounting program, I am a Canadian trained CPA, CA. I also hold a US CPA designation and a Master of Science in Taxation from Golden Gate University. Originally from Stoney Creek, Ontario, I currently live in Kitchener-Waterloo with my husband and three boys. As part of my commitment to the community where I live, I sit on the Board of Directors for Nutrition For Learning in Kitchener-Waterloo and the Audit & Finance Committee for Owl Child Care Services of Ontario. In addition, I designed and have taught an introductory US taxation course at the University of Waterloo. Outside of work I enjoy biking, reading and travelling.
